Guys, I’m wearing a sweater and drinking hot coffee in the office right now, and I LOVE IT. Welcome back Fall! We’ve missed you on the North Fork. Fall is always a bitter-sweet season for me, though. “Sweet” because of the crisp, refreshing weather, beautiful sunsets, fall foliage, my gloriously comfortable (albeit less than flattering) fall wardrobe, and of course the excitement of harvest. “Bitter” because it means winter is only a few months away. But, let’s focus on the positive,...Read More
Lieb Behind the Scenes – June 2019
HOW IS IT SUMMER? Well, unofficially at least. I think what’s throwing me off is how cool it’s been. High 60’s and low humidity are my jam but certainly not the beach and BBQ weather I expect in June. Regardless, it’s here. And we’re ready for it!
At Lieb, we’re in full “on season” swing. Our tasting room and patio are decked out with new furniture and umbrellas. Our Sunday summer music schedule is on the books, and we’re looking forward...Read More
Spring! Well it’s not officially here but it is in my mind. The next month or so I’ll step out of my house in the morning with a light jacket and refuse to turn around to swap it out for a winter coat despite immediately realizing it’s still cold out and I’m inappropriately dressed. Spring is here dammit!
So what’s going on at Lieb “behind the scenes”?
At the winery, spring is bottling season. It starts in January with our Bridge Lane Rosé and continues through...Read More
We made it! This whirlwind of a year at Lieb Cellars is only a few days from coming to a close. And as I sit here trying to reflect on the past 12 months, my mind keeps wandering to the 12 months ahead. 2018 has been banner year, and I’m super proud of all that #TeamLieb has accomplished. But rather than look back fondly, what I’m focused on right now is starting fresh and getting to work in 2019. There’s so much more to do!
With this being said, in the spirit of looking...Read More
Harvest is here! It marks my 6th at Lieb Cellars. Yesterday my husband and I brought our two daughters, Renny who is 4 and Gabi who is 2, out to the vineyard to help our crew pick Sauvignon Blanc grapes. They pretended to drive the tractors, played with our vineyard foreman’s daughter Nilda, snuck tastes of the grapes and ran around acres of open space. Reflecting on the day, I felt incredibly grateful to live where I live and work where I work.
It also made me nostalgic about...Read More
Hey hey guys!
It’s been 3 months since I sat down to write a blog post and WHERE DO I BEGIN. Whirlwind and insomnia are the two words that immediately come to mind when I think about this year thus far. Whirlwind because we’ve seen a boom in media attention and sales, the likes of which I’ve yet to experience in my 4 years (wow, almost 5 now!) at Lieb. And insomnia because all of the excitement has me up at night running through my ever-growing to-do list and contemplating all the ways...Read More
I was hoping to write this blog post last week but then came down with a horrendous flu. I then tried to write it on Tuesday but we got hit with our 3rd Nor’easter in two weeks, so I was stuck at home for 12 hours with two very cute but very high-maintenance toddlers and zero peace and quiet. And as I sit here writing today, I’m wrapped in an oversized wool scarf because it’s 36 degrees out. Who’s ready for spring?? ME.
Yet despite the challenges of winter, I’m...Read More
Lieb Behind The Scenes – January 2018
Hey all, happy 2018! This new year is especially happy for us here at Lieb because we have A LOT in store.
In my last post, I reviewed what I learned while working as a harvest intern at our winery. Since then, we successfully completed harvest (the last bins of grapes were picked the first week in November), started pruning our vines to get them ready for next year’s growing season and have been working on getting our 2017 vintage wines ready...Read More
Hey ya’ll! Because we’re right smack in the middle of harvest and I’m now a month into my harvest internship at our winery, I think I’ll dedicate this blog post to what I’ve learned thus far from my time spent “working harvest”.
To give context, yes, I’ve worked though quite a few harvests before. This is my 5th vintage at Lieb, and prior to Lieb, I spent 2 years working for another small winery on the North Fork. From my post in the tasting room or at the office,...Read More
And just like that, we’re about to kick off harvest. When I last posted in June, bud break (the start of the vineyard growing season) was only a month behind us and we were just entering the full summer swing. Our tasting rooms were bustling with summer visitors and our wholesale business was nearing its early summer peak. Fast forward to today and the signs of fall are all around us. We’re expecting mild temps in the 70’s this weekend and into next week. Kids are about to go back...Read More
