Who’s Who at Lieb Cellars: Alicia Ekeler-Valle

1. What do you do at Lieb Cellars?
I am the tasting room director & devout food enthusiast. Also, as of recent, the office DJ.

2. How did you come to work in the wine industry?
My interest in wine grew after culinary school when I was managing the bar at a high end restaurant with an extensive and smartly-arranged wine list. There is a science and a craft in assembling a great wine list- I found a lot of joy in that work. The North Fork was a natural next step, and as it turns out- where I am likely to start growing some roots.

3. What’s your favorite part about working at LC?
The team. There are some seriously talented people under this roof! This company has become progressively strong and united in the past couple of years and this growth that has been such an honor to be a part of. Witnessing a group of people coalesce to achieve something (while maintaining a sense of humor during the lulls) is the best. It’s comforting.
Oh, and as someone who has been on a restaurant schedule since 2003, it is really nice to work normal hours. I do not miss getting home well past the witching hour

4. What are your favorite Lieb and non-Lieb wines?
The 2013 Bridge Lane (stainless) Chardonnay has been my current favorite. Of all time? The 2014 Bridge Lane Rosé that has already been pryed out of my hands by our customers. In the winter I’m partial to whatever vintage of Merlot in house that is at its prime. I suspect the 2013 will be in-hand by October.

5. If someone gave you $100 and the day off, how would you spend it?
I would order a sushi boat for two…for myself. Then go to Greenport and buy the girls a couple rounds. Sitting at a table at Brix and Rye and cracking up with my friends is an activity I’m always willing to fund.
