Most Grammable North Fork Spots: The Times Vintage

April 27, 2021

If you’re a fan of thrifting, vintage, or antiques and you’ve never stopped in to The Times Vintage in Greenport, you don’t know what you’ve been missing! Though there are countless vintage and antique shops to choose from on the North Fork, this one is by far my favorite. The shop has always been colorful and inviting, but over the past year or so, owner Lizzy Sweigart has completely transformed the space with the help of her partner, local woodworking artist Ricky Saetta. The result is a groovy, mid-century modern space absolutely filled to the brim with amazing vintage clothing, accessories, and houseware.

Even if you’ve convinced yourself that you’re just “window-shopping”, your first photo opportunity presents itself before you’ve even stepped through the door. The overhead sign looks as though it has been a part of the village forever…because it has! The shop was the original location of the local newspaper, The Suffolk Times. The large front window display changes with the seasons but is always awash with colors and lights and repurposed items turned art. It’s the kind of display that you can look at over and over again and still discover something new every time. Snap a photo for your Instagram story and let everybody in on the secret about the cutest vintage shop in town!

So let’s say window shopping turns into actual shopping. I can almost guarantee this will be the case once you get your first glimpse of the incredible selection of clothing the shop has to offer. Lizzy has an amazing eye for vintage and sources her pieces from trips all over the US. Grab a few dresses or shirts and head over to the dressing rooms, which are the focal point of the shop. Two huge seventies-style flowers adorn the outside doors, but it’s inside the dressing rooms that the real beauty lies. The walls are covered with incredibly detailed wooden appliques, flowers in one room and adorable butterflies in the other, and with the floor length mirrors they appear to go on forever. You will absolutely not be able to resist taking a mirror selfie in these dressing rooms, especially if you’ve found the perfect vintage outfit for your next occasion!

A few of the walls of the shop are taken up by a massive, though minimalist, mural of retro multicolored stripes in orange, yellow, brown, and pink. They draw your eye to the rear of the shop where there are shelves upon shelves of housewares and tchotchkes. And if you follow the stripes all the way to the back corner, you’ll find a secret nook of mid-century modern furniture that will make you feel as though you just stepped into your grandparents’ childhood home (in the best possible way). Take a seat in the egg-shaped fabric chair that takes up one corner and have your friend grab a photo of you looking as carefree as they did back in the day.

If you find yourself in Greenport one of these days, stop in to Times Vintage and say hello! And don’t blame me if you end up spending half your paycheck on vintage clothes and pyrex. You can’t say I didn’t warn you!
