Name and position: Anthony Mattis, Team Captain Oregon Road Tasting Room
1. What do you do at Lieb Cellars?
I obsess over all the little details that help keep the Oregon Road tasting room in tip top shape. You see how that one candle is slightly off center? …No? Exactly.
2. How did you come to work in the wine industry?
I grew up in Nassau County, but moved out to Southold to live with my father for a little while after graduating college. We came into Lieb one day to chat with his friend who was managing the tasting room at the time. I got the job the next day, fell in love with the industry, moved into my own place, and the rest is history.
3. What’s your favorite part about working at LC?
Besides the awesome people who have become some of my best friends, my favorite part about working at Lieb Cellars is the location. I’m a fan of many wineries out here on the North Fork, but I always find myself coming back to Lieb, even on my days off, to hang out on the patio by the fire pits and watch the sunset behind the beautiful fields swaying in the wind. That’s a pretty good description I must say, maybe we should put it on our bottles.
4. What are your favorite Lieb and non-Lieb wines?
Big Italian reds for the non Lieb wines; Montepulcianos, Barolos, Super Tuscans. Favorite Lieb Wine will always be Blanc de Blancs, but the 2013 Pinot Blanc and Meritage are proving to be close contenders.
5. If someone gave you $100 and the day off, how would you spend it?
We’re picking up burgers, dogs, and beers and calling up that one friend with the pool. I’m sure he won’t mind, it’s only going to be between 5 and 20 of us this time.
